Vlagtwedde is a village in the municipality of Westerwolde, located in the eponymous region in the southeastern part of the Dutch province of Groningen. Until 1889, the village was the main settlement of the then municipality of Vlagtwedde. The village has approximately 3,195 inhabitants. Vlagtwedde originated on one of the sand ridges that were located in the former Boertangermoor. The current church dates back to the thirteenth century and appears in the supplement of a list of churches from the Abbey of Corvey, which originated around the same time. Vlagtwedde was one of the five parishes of Westerwolde.
