"Watermill" Hattem-Molecaten

The watermill of Hattem-Molecaten is a water mill that uses the water of local sprengen that provide the water supply in the reservoir. The mill is located southwest of Hattem on the estate near house Molecaten. The mill is still running regularly but is short of water.
The original year of construction of the watermill is not known, but it is one of the first paper mills on the Veluwe.Around 1800 a smaller paper mill was added. In 1804 the mill was described as the large mill, a four-bucket mill with 20 hammers and the small mill one with six hammers. The mill drove the hammers to form the rag chips with water into a paper slurry. In 1857 the large mill burned down and was rebuilt as a grist mill, due to the then emerging competition from machine paper mills in the Veluwe. The mill was active as a grist mill until 1914.Between 1918 and 1940 the mill was used to generate electricity for the house Molecaten.Na a period of decay the mill was restored in 1967 and in 1996/1997 the mill was refurbished again.
