"Venemansmolen / The Old Mill" Winterswijk

The Venemansmolen or The Old Mill is a corn mill built in 1898 at Venemansweg 7 in Winterswijk, with parts from the wooden sawmill De Goede Hoop that was demolished in Zaandam-Oost. Since 1997, the mill has been named Venemansmolen. It is a buckwheat mill with a wooden octagon covered with roofing felt for grinding grain. The gallery is 7.40 m above the ground and has so-called crow's feet. The mill has one pair of grinding stones with blue stones 140 cm in diameter. The 1997-sourced sails are 22.86 m long. The sails of the inner sail are equipped with Ten Have shutters. The Bussel noses are on all four sails. The mill has a bracing catch, consisting of four pieces of poplar wood, and is operated with a catch drum. For lifting (hoisting), there is a lift mechanism. There is an iron band around the top wheel for catching. The bored top shaft is from 1875 with number 955 and was made by the iron foundry De Prins van Oranje. The shaft was later bored, as it is necessary for the operation of the Ten Have shutters. The operation of the Ten Have shutters is done at the tail. The cap is equipped with an English gearing system. The mill was restored from 1994 to 1997, during which the stone substructure was raised by several meters from above. The elevated part does not slope as evenly as the lower section but is built straight up, so that the wooden octagon would still fit.
