Poptaslot
The Poptaslot (also known as Azingastate or Heringastate) is a state and museum in the Frisian village of Marssum (Menaldumadeel).

Description
It was founded in the 15th century by the Heringa family. In 1603, it came into possession of the Van Eysinga family, and in 1631 it was extensively renovated. In 1687, it was purchased by Dr. Henricus Popta, who, after his death in 1712, had a rest home for impoverished women established there by testament (Poptagasthuis). From 1906 to 1908, the Poptaslot was restored and renovated according to a design by the Hague architect Johan Frederik Lodewijk Frowein. The house is still furnished and decorated in 17th- and 18th-century style.
It is currently open as a museum. It features, among other things, two towers, a gatehouse, a courtyard, a large hall, and the Bumakamer. On the top floor are two beautifully crafted bed cabinets dating from around 1540. There is a replica of a jug and dish made of Poptazilver.

Garden
In 1735, Valentijn Pommer designed a model orchard as a garden for the Poptaslot. Between 1840 and 1845, the gardens of the Poptaslot were redesigned, this time in Frisian landscape style, according to a design by Lucas Pieters Roodbaard. The garden layout was then modified again, and the Poptaslot received a geometrically arranged garden based on a design by W.C. de Groot.
