Care location Aalscholver

Rest area Aalscholver is a Dutch rest area along the A6 Joure-Muiderberg between exits 9 and 8 at the height of the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve, in the municipality of Lelystad. The rest area gets its name from the Aalscholver, a large black bird with a long beak that has a hook-shaped tip. This bird can be found in the adjacent Oostvaardersplassen. In the vicinity of the rest area, in the municipality of Zeewolde, there are many roads with a bird name, such as Reigerweg, Ooievaarsweg, Roerdompweg. There is also the Schollevaarweg, which relates to the Aalscholver, as Schollevaar is another name for that bird.
