The Tongue of Lucifer is an image in the shape of a giant oval. The sculpture by artist Ruud van de Wint normally stands along the A6, on the Knardijk, in the Dutch province of Flevoland and was unveiled in 1993. The statue is nine meters high, four meters wide and one and a half meters thick. According to the maker, the statue could symbolize Lucifer, the fallen angel who mockingly sticks out his tongue to God. However, it is argued that this has little to do with the image and may only be an empty provocation. Nevertheless, objections arose from politicians and citizens and the SGP described it as the tongue of the devil. In 2021, Provinciale Staten changed its name to De Tong.
