Tjongerschans

On October 19, 1929, the official inauguration of the hospital on the Thialfweg took place. The capacity was 70 beds. On February 22, 1938, the new east wing with 40 beds was opened. Actually, there were always expansions: new kitchen building, children's department and internal department, X-ray department, outpatient clinic. In the 1970s, a new treatment home was built, increasing the capacity by 90 beds to almost 400 beds. This was followed in the 1980s by the construction of a psychiatric-neurological department and an outpatient centre. At the beginning of the 21st century, a large new building is taking place. The new building was completed in 2008. Since 1 January 2012, the Tjongerschans has been part of Zorgpartners Friesland and therefore falls under the same parent organisation as Medical Centre Leeuwarden.
