Kollumer Veerhuis

The Kollumer Veerhuis is a monumental building on the Keppelstraat in Dokkum in the Dutch province of Friesland.
The building is located on the corner of Keppelstraat, Zuiderbolwerk and Strobossersteeg in Dokkum. The house with the brick stepped gable was probably built in the mid-17th century. The house was located on the edge of the old town near the former Forest Gate and the city wall. Before 1832 it was a house owned by Jan Lolkes Suiderbaan, a lawyer at the Court of Friesland. Remains of the interior from the 18th century have been preserved in the building. Around 1832 the building was used as an inn and coffee house. Because of its favourable location near the jetties for the barges to other Frisian places, the passengers of these ships in particular used the ferry house. The building retained its catering function until the second half of the 20th century. In 1963, the Hendrick de Keyser Association acquired ownership of the building, which is recognized as a national monument. In 1967 the Veerhuis was restored by them. The property is rented out by this association.
