The transfer station on the eastern side of the yard at the Nederlandse Spoorwegen station in Nuth became operational around 1910. When the Julian Canal – the Julian Canal is a canal that carries part of the water from the Maas – was completed in 1934 and opened on September 16, 1935, more and more coal produced by the state mine Hendrik and the state mine Emma was transported directly to the State Mine Harbor in Stein. This occurred on the mine railway that was completed in 1930, which ran from Nuth and Schinnen (later, shaft Schinnen was connected here) towards state mine Maurits and ultimately towards Stein. As a result, activity in the yard in Nuth declined significantly, and many railway employees left Nuth. After the mine closures, the coal loading site was mainly used for sugar beet loading. Here, all sugar beets from Limburg were loaded.
