The Schiedamse Gate was a city gate in the Dutch city of Delft. This gate was built in conjunction with the Rotterdam Gate starting in 1396, the year in which Count Albrecht of Bavaria granted permission to Delft to rebuild its gates and city walls. It would still take until after 1514 before the Schiedamse and Rotterdam gates were completed. Since the south side of the city of Delft was the most visited side, it is not surprising that in 1590 the city council decided to have these southern gates modified so that they would meet the architectural standards of the time.
