First walk about 60 meters to the information panel to get a good view of the Hedgehog Lake. The name Hedgehog Lake has nothing to do with the prickly animal, but is probably derived from Aegil Marum, as the area was referred to in Roman times. In contrast to the south side of the ridge, hardly any settlements have developed here on the north side in the past. The area was boggy and wet. There were seepage swamps and fens, of which the Leersumse Plassen and the Egelmeer remained after reclamation. The bottom of the lake consists of a bowl-shaped boulder clay layer, in which rainwater remains. But due to drought and hot summers, there is not always water in the Hedgehog Lake.
