Hofstede Klein Kruidenburg

B&B Hofstede Klein Kruidenburg has four rooms. All rooms are equipped for two people as standard. Two rooms have their own sink and a shared bathroom. The other two rooms have a private bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. There is a common room where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

This national monument was built in the 17th century within the former boundaries of Zwammerdam. The name is probably derived from the profession of Gijsbert van Wieringen, a merchant in herbs and spices.

In 1673 an important event is said to have taken place on the homestead.

In 1666, Vice-Admiral Cornelis Tromp achieved the first real victory of his life. He defeated the British rearguard during the Second British Naval Battle. Because he had fallen far from the main force, he could not come to its aid. Admiral Michiel de Ruyter therefore blamed him for the defeat. Tromp was eventually suspended.

In March 1673, stadtholder Willem III tried to reconcile Tromp with De Ruyter. He could then reinstate Tromp to the fleet. A first attempt ended in a violent argument. But after Tromp was promised that he would be allowed to succeed De Ruyter after his death, the admirals formally settled the quarrel.

The story goes that this happened in the Kruidenburg homestead. A painting with a memento of this has hung above the tower door of the village church of Zwammerdam for years.
