Hagestein is a village in the Vijfheerenlanden on the Lek, since 2019 belonging to the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden in the Dutch province of Utrecht. Hagestein has a Reformed church, a primary school and a former town hall.
Before Hagestein Castle was built, the settlement was called Gasperde. In 1382 Gasperde obtained city rights from Jan V van Arkel, but in 1405 it was demolished to the ground. Later, the town of Hagestein was created on the site of Gasperde.
On 1 January 1812 Hagestein was incorporated into the municipality of Everdingen, only to be split off from it again on 1 January 1818. On 1 January 1986 the municipality was abolished and merged into Vianen. The town hall on the Dorpstraat can be recognized by the facing brick and special roof construction.
