Brick factory De Roodvoet

The former brick factory "De Roodvoet", just past Rijswijk, is in disrepair.
A few years ago, the owner was still enthusiastically setting up the complex for the storage of sailboats and caravans. The roofs had been repaired and people were busy with the floors. The lake in front of the factory would be set up for mooring sailing yachts. But unfortunately, no permit has been obtained for this. The factory then fell further into disrepair. A final plan is now a large luxury recreation park with 200 recreational homes and 10 regular homes. The municipality of Wijk bij Duurstede seems to see something in this. But will it ever get off the ground?

Steenfabriek de Roodvoet has been in service for 126 years and was permanently stopped in 2008 due to a crisis in the construction industry. As late as 1968, the factory baked 6 million bricks a year. In recent years there have been 35 million a year, which is relatively little for a brick factory at this time, but the factory specialized in baking bricks for home renovation. Many stones were exported to Germany and England. The last employees still live on the Roodvoet site.
