Dinkelstein XII

The Dinkel stones are a group of sculptures along the Dinkel stream.

As part of the first cross-border state garden exhibition in 2003 in Gronau (Westf.) (D) and Losser (NL), artists from the Netherlands and Germany were invited to submit designs for artworks for the state garden exhibition 2003. About 80 artists followed this invitation, and a jury selected individual and overall projects from the submitted designs that were realized in the following months.

The concept Dinkel stones by Anke Engels from Gronau was chosen and awarded the 2nd prize, which was very similar to that of the artist group Form-Los from Havixbeck. Therefore, it was natural for the artists of Form-Los to participate in the Dinkel stones project. The creation process of the sculptures was documented and published online in a timely manner.

Thirteen sculptures made of Ibbenbüren sandstone were created and installed along the Dinkel over a distance of 15 kilometers. The work on the sculptures could be observed by visitors in Gronau-Epe and on the grounds of the Baumberger Sandstone Museum in Havixbeck. After the conclusion of the state garden exhibition Gronau-Losser 2003, the sculpture path was further extended by two sculptures from Dutch sculptors in the municipality of Losser.
