Grain silo Wehl

A very notable building for Wehl is the grain silo by the tracks from Doetinchem to Arnhem. The silo, along with its warehouses, was constructed between 1920 and 1956 on behalf of an agricultural cooperative. Thanks to collective purchasing and storage of fertilizers, production on the poor sandy soils could be increased at that time. Due to the increased grain production and the supply and processing of foreign grain, the production in livestock farming could also be raised. Eventually, the scale enlargement in the entire agricultural sector made this grain silo redundant.
After the complex fell into disuse, its condition declined rapidly. It nearly ended up being demolished at the end of the 20th century. Ultimately, the non-profit organization BOEi, which focuses on repurposing industrial, agricultural, and religious heritage, managed to save the complex from demolition and transform it into a business center for creative entrepreneurs. An information board that stands by the grain silo is worth a look.
