Trekking in Annapurna area Day 6: Alu Bari – Bathasa Danda – Marpha

Day 6: Alu Bari (3915m) - Bathasa Danda (4900m) - Marpha (2640m) - 13 km

Today we will try to climb as high as possible to Dampus Peak/Thapa Peak and descend to Marpha.

We leave at 8 o'clock. It will be a long and hard journey, always through deep snow.

The view is exceptional and the surroundings are pure white . Beware of snow blindness!

Around 12 o'clock you can see a peak, the Bathasa Danda (4900 m ). This will be the last goal for today. A hundred meters from the summit, menacing clouds gather and the weather suddenly begins to change.

There is another difficult climb to the summit in deteriorating weather: biting wind, snow, hail. Oddly enough, there is no snow on the small mountain peak where we are just after half past twelve. Everything flies here. No wonder, after all, Bathasa Danda means "windy mountain".

Due to the bad weather, we can only hold out for a few minutes , just enough to capture the necessary photo and film evidence.

Our main guide tells us to download as soon as possible. He seems worried about us.

Especially in bad weather, a descent through deep snow is no joke. We take really big steps and slide and jump down like that. Every now and then someone gets upset. You can expect the descent to be very strenuous as well.

Back at the camp there is soup.

And then he goes to Marpha. We walk through the snow for a long time before we get back on the path with rocks and boulders

When we first see Marpha through the trees it gives us a boost, but it feels like we're still very high because it's amazing how slowly Marpha is approaching.

What a fantastic day! Today we were much higher than Mont Blanc , which is the highest mountain in Europe.
