Phraya Banlue Canal Confluence

The Phraya Banlue Canal is a major canal built in the reign of King Rama I to irrigate farm land of large-scale rice cultivation. The canal was built on a private basis and the land 30 or 40 sen wide on each bank belonged to the owner of the company digging the canal. The construction of the canal with as director Jao Phraya Banlue (hence the canal's name) started in 1892, but Banlue did not live to see the completion of his project. Muslims from Pattani Province were recruited to construct the canal. After the canal was built many Muslims established themselves at Lat Bua Luang. The canal connects the Chao Phraya River with the Tha Jin River. The canal splits off from the Chao Phraya River at Bang Sai opposite the Bang Sai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Center in Ayutthaya Province and plunges into the Tha Jin River in Song Phi Nong District of Suphan Buri.
