La Universidad de Gante, en breve HOGENT, es una de las 17 universidades de la comunidad flamenca. Se fundó en 1995 con la reforma de la educación superior en Flandes a partir de la fusión de trece instituciones educativas. Las sedes de la universidad están distribuidas en Gante, Aalst, Melle, Dendermonde, Lokeren y Bottelare. Actualmente, más de 15,000 estudiantes cursan sus estudios.
La Universidad de Gante se compone de tres facultades, una Escuela de Bellas Artes, las titulaciones académicas bajo la denominación GO5 y un Centro Interfacultativo para el Emprendimiento. La dirección general de la universidad es ejercida por el organismo organizador, el consejo administrativo y el director general. Cada facultad es dirigida por un decano, quien está encargado de la administración diaria de su facultad.
