Según la tradición, fue fundado en 1249 por Margareta de Constantinopla. Obtuvo ingresos gracias a la imposición sobre la importación de vino. El hermano medidor medía con la vara de medir la cantidad de vino que se traía por cada barril al puerto de Damme.
Aquí encontrará un museo interesante con una rica colección de muebles góticos y renacentistas, pinturas de los administradores del hospital, un Tüchlein, cerámica, lápidas, utensilios. Capilla hospitalaria barroca.
