El teatro se encuentra en el lado norte de la plaza Sint-Baafsplein, que se creó en 1897 tras la demolición de edificios más antiguos que obstruían la vista de la catedral de San Bavón. El teatro fue construido entre 1897 y 1899 en el lugar de la antigua calle Regnessestraat en estilo ecléctico, con características principalmente renacentistas, según un diseño del arquitecto Edmond De Vigne.
