La torre Anneessen, también conocida como torre de la esquina, es un vestigio de la primera muralla de la ciudad de Bruselas. Fue construida en el siglo XIII y funcionó como torre de vigilancia. La torre se caracteriza por su pequeño torreón octogonal y tiene dos plantas. Desde 1992 es un monumento protegido, aunque no es accesible al público (wikipedia, s.f.)
Según la tradición, Frans Anneessen habría estado detenido aquí durante seis meses, junto con otros cuatro decanos, antes de ser condenado a muerte. Aunque la torre debe su nombre a este evento, esto no es correcto. Anneessens estaba encarcelado en la Puerta de Piedra, que en ese momento también funcionaba como prisión. Sin embargo, la torre Anneessen y la Puerta de Piedra estaban conectadas por un pasillo.
