El Bantmolen o Binnemolen está ubicado en el centro de Merchtem, cerca de la iglesia con acceso al estanque de la iglesia. El molino ya fue mencionado en 1269. Hasta aproximadamente 1320, era un molino de ban de los duques de Brabante, que lo cedieron a los Pipenpoy's (señores de Merchtem), en el siglo XV un molino de carrera.
El 29 de octubre de 1595 se llevó a cabo en Merchtem un "Onsser Liever Vrouwen maeltijdt". Entre los miembros encontramos: "Guillam Verhagen moilder". ¿Quizás un molinero en el Binnemolen o en otro molino de Merchtem?
En 1902, la rueda de agua, que estaba dentro, fue reemplazada por una turbina Francis (firma Schneider-Jacquet de Neudorf cerca de Estrasburgo). Esta turbina sigue presente y se encuentra en el pozo de la rueda, como en el molino Oyenbrug en Grimbergen.
Actualmente, el edificio opera como restaurante taberna "De Passerel".
