La fortaleza reforzada
El terreno del castillo, situado en una cresta montañosa y rodeado por el Semois, es en realidad doble.
En un primer saliente de la montaña se erguía un clásico montículo de castillo.
En 1082 se construyó una segunda torre del castillo por Godofredo de Bouillón, quien vendió el dominio al obispo de Lieja antes de partir en cruzada.
Mucho más tarde, el castillo fue principalmente remodelado bajo el impulso de Vauban, durante la ocupación francesa. Las obras de defensa avanzadas, cuarteles, un arsenal y un polvorín son el resultado de ello.
Bajo el dominio neerlandés, la torre del castillo fue destruida en 1824 para dar paso a otros cuarteles, pero el terreno militar fue desclasificado en 1853.
Finalmente se convierte en un sitio turístico popular.
