El ayuntamiento de Charleroi, inaugurado en 1936, es un edificio monumental clásico, con acentos Art déco gracias a sus líneas geométricas y a sus juegos de materiales: mármoles rojos y negros, bronce, latón, hierro forjado.
El interior está decorado con numerosas estatuas que buscan exaltar el triunfo de la ciudad, su prosperidad y su riqueza industrial. Solo la sala del Consejo comunal contiene una obra pictórica en siete paneles a los que responden siete vitrales con las armas de los cantones del distrito de Charleroi.
Obra maestra de la arquitectura civil, el ayuntamiento tiene su campanario inscrito en la lista del Patrimonio mundial de la Unesco.
