Itegem es un pueblo en la provincia belga de Amberes y una parte del municipio de Heist-op-den-Berg. El pueblo se encuentra a orillas del Gran Nete. Itegem fue un municipio independiente hasta la reorganización municipal de 1977. La primera mención del lugar data del 976. Según un documento del emperador Otón II, el monasterio de San Bavón cedió el 19 de enero de 976 su posesión de Noorderwijk e Itegem a los nobles Folgbert y Reginswinde a cambio de la villa de Holthem. El nombre Itegem proviene de Idingehem. Hasta la Revolución Francesa, gran parte del territorio actual de Itegem se encontraba en un pequeño enclave de la señoría de Malinas. El resto pertenecía al ducado de Brabante.
