Donde ahora se encuentra el Lago de Keerbergen, había anteriormente un aeropuerto para aviones deportivos. También se utilizó como aeropuerto militar durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial por los alemanes. El aeropuerto estuvo operativo desde 1932 hasta 1963. Sin embargo, el aeropuerto desapareció y, debido a la excavación de la tierra de arena, se formó el actual lago de Keerbergen, que tiene una superficie de 12 hectáreas. Hay una historia que dice que dos soldados alemanes están enterrados que se estrellaron en las cercanías. Pero esa historia no es cierta. Están enterrados en el Cementerio Militar Alemán en Lommel.
