Desde 2006 hasta 2011, aquí se llevaron a cabo grandes proyectos de gestión con la ayuda del fondo europeo Life. Debido a la reforestación intensiva en el pasado, la sequía y la falta de gestión natural adecuada, el paisaje de brezal se había perdido casi por completo. Con la restauración de un brezal abierto, las áreas de brezal existentes a ambos lados de la frontera terrestre se reconectan. A través de cortes selectivos de árboles, se amplían tanto breza seca como húmeda. Las labores de desbroce condujeron a la recuperación de charcas y a más arena expuesta.
