La comunidad de Carmelitas Descalzas de Dendermonde se trasladó en 1976 a Moerzeke. Solo hay 11 monasterios de Carmelitas Descalzas o Teresianas en Flandes. Viven, siguiendo el ejemplo de Santa Teresa de Ávila, en total soledad para poder dedicarse completamente a la oración. Quieren ser así fortalezas protegidas desde donde el Amor de Dios puede difundirse. Las hermanas nunca salen de los muros del monasterio, excepto en caso de enfermedad grave o cuando hay que votar. Rejas las separan de las zonas públicas del monasterio, lo que limita mucho el contacto con el mundo exterior.
