En Waregem se encuentra el único cementerio militar estadounidense en Bélgica de la Primera Guerra Mundial: descansan 368 soldados que fallecieron en la Primera Guerra Mundial.
Los soldados estadounidenses llegaron a Europa solo en 1917, pero se desplegaron principalmente durante la Ofensiva Final en 1918 en Bélgica. El cementerio militar estadounidense en Waregem es el único cementerio en Bélgica donde descansan alrededor de 370 soldados estadounidenses de la Primera Guerra Mundial. En 1927, Charles Lindbergh rindió homenaje a los soldados caídos esparciendo amapolas sobre el cementerio.
El cementerio estadounidense se amplió en 2017 con un centro de visitantes que cuenta cómo Estados Unidos contribuyó a la Liberación de Bélgica durante la Primera Guerra Mundial. Esto a través de las cuatro unidades estadounidenses que estaban estacionadas en Bélgica.
