El Parque 58 debe su nombre a la exposición mundial de 1958, durante la cual una parte del área de dunas se convirtió en parque. Sin embargo, una parte del área de dunas original se ha conservado en forma de praderas de duna escasas y algo ricas en cal, y matorrales de duna. La flora en estas praderas de duna escasas es particularmente rica y contiene especies que han desaparecido prácticamente por completo en otros lugares de la costa este. A través de un acuerdo de gestión con el ayuntamiento, esta área única está bajo la administración de Natuurpunt, sección Knokke-Heist. El área es completamente accesible, siempre que se respete los valores naturales presentes.
