El Castillo de Wijnendale es una fortaleza de agua, situada en el entorno boscoso de Wijnendale. Durante una cacería de garzas en Wijnendale en 1482, la duquesa María de Borgoña sufrió una caída mortal de su caballo. Murió dos semanas después a la edad de 25 años en Brujas.
