El encaje de bolillos es una obra del artista de Liedekerke Albert De Cock del año 1988 (material: poliéster/fibra de vidrio, coloreado y enriquecido con polvo mineral). Hasta principios del siglo XX, Liedekerke era un municipio agrícola con pequeñas explotaciones agrícolas principalmente orientadas a la autosuficiencia.
Debido al fuerte crecimiento poblacional en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, las pequeñas explotaciones agrícolas se desglosaron cada vez más, de modo que la mayoría de las familias se vieron obligadas a complementar sus ingresos: las mujeres trabajando en casa como encajeras o como obreras en un taller textil, los hombres como alfareros en una de las fábricas de ladrillos en el valle del Dender.
