El 30 de noviembre de 1870 circuló el primer tren en la línea de ferrocarril Mechelen-Terneuzen. De hecho, esta línea se debe en gran parte a Gustave Eiffel, el padre de la Torre Eiffel. Él diseñó el puente completamente de hierro sobre el Escalda en Temse, que se encontraba en la trayectoria de la línea de ferrocarril. Desde hace tiempo, los ciclistas y caminantes pueden disfrutar del sendero que se ha construido en el lecho de la vía. Este camino pasa por una hermosa naturaleza, de la cual el Bosque de Los Cazadores es el componente principal. Este bosque de casi 500 hectáreas debe su nombre a actividades nocturnas en la frontera, pero anteriormente formaba parte del Bosque Real, donde los condes de Flandes iban a cazar.
