Lugano es una ciudad y comuna en el sureste de Suiza, en el cantón del Tesino de habla italiana, situada a 273 msnm y a orillas del lago homónimo. La ciudad también tiene un carácter italiano.
El nombre Lugano probablemente proviene de la palabra latina Lucus, que significa madera o madera sagrada.
