El paso se encuentra entre los lugares de Courgenay y Saint-Ursanne al oeste y Develier al este. La altura del paso está a 856 m sobre el nivel del mar. El paso pertenecía hasta 2009 al área del municipio de Asuel, que hoy forma parte de La Baroche.
El paso conecta las regiones de Freiberge y Clos du Doubs. Con la apertura de la línea de tren Delémont–Delle en 1877, el tráfico a través del paso disminuyó. Desde 1998, el tráfico automovilístico puede evitar el paso a través de los túneles de la autopista 16 situados al oeste y al sur.
