Bad Suderode está situada en el borde norte de la cordillera media de Harz, en el Parque Natural Harz/Sachsen-Anhalt. Se encuentra aproximadamente a 6,5 km al sur-suroeste de Quedlinburg, directamente al oeste de Gernrode y un poco al este de Stecklenberg.
Suderode se menciona por primera vez en 1179 con el nombre de "desmonte del sur de Quedlinburg". Sin embargo, es probable que el lugar ya existiera después de 960. El campanario de piedra de "la antigua iglesia en la montaña" data del siglo X y impresiona con sus frescos, que representan, entre otros, la parábola de las vírgenes prudentes y necias. Suderode pertenecía al monasterio de Quedlinburg. Las pocas casas del lugar, construidas de adobe, se agrupan alrededor de la iglesia.
