Bredeney es un barrio del sur de la ciudad de Essen. Los barrios colindantes son al sur Fischlaken y Werden, al oeste Schuir y Haarzopf, al norte Margarethenhöhe, Rüttenscheid y Stadtwald, así como al este Heisingen.
La primera mención de Bredeney se encuentra con motivo de la inauguración de una iglesia en Werden el 10 de noviembre de 875. En el año 1036, el abad Gerold hizo construir una capilla en Bredeney en honor a la Santísima Trinidad. Adolfo de la Marca construyó en 1226 la casa Baldeney, hoy conocida como el castillo Baldeney.
