Neuengamme es un distrito de Hamburgo. Antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y durante ella un campo de concentración fue establecido por la SS. Desde entonces el nombre del campo de concentración fue KZ Neuengamme. El campo funcionó desde 1938 hasta 1945, se cree que más de 80,000 hombres y 13,500 mujeres fueron registradas como prisioneros y al menos 42,900 prisioneros perdieron la vida.[1]
En abril de 1945 entre 600-700 prisioneros limpiaron y quemaron archivos del campo. El 2 de mayo de 1945 los últimos miembros de la SS dejaron el campo de concentración y las tropas Británicas arribaron al centro de concentración[1].
