El Nied es un afluente izquierdo del Saar, que discurre de forma transfronteriza en la región francesa de Grand Est y en el estado alemán de Sarre. El nombre del río probablemente se deba a raíces celtas.
El Nied nace en el territorio del municipio de Marthille en el departamento de Mosela y drena inicialmente bajo el nombre de Nied Française en dirección generalmente noroeste. Al este de Metz, gira hacia el noreste y alcanza el lugar de Condé-Northen, donde por la derecha desemboca su río hermano Nied Allemande. A partir de aquí, cambia su nombre a Nied y cruza después de un recorrido de 97 kilómetros entre Guerstling y Niedaltdorf la frontera estatal entre Francia y Alemania. Después de otros 17 kilómetros en territorio alemán, desemboca, tras una longitud total de 114 kilómetros, en el territorio del municipio de Rehlingen-Siersburg desde la izquierda en el Saar.
