El estadio Mathias Stinnes era un estadio de fútbol con pista de ceniza en el barrio Karnap de Essen, al norte. Fue construido en 1925, comprado en 1950 por la mina Mathias Stinnes y ampliado hasta convertirse en uno de los estadios más modernos de la cuenca del Ruhr. Oficialmente, aún tiene capacidad para 9,000 espectadores. La instalación lleva el nombre del empresario alemán Mathias Stinnes. Aquí se llevaron a cabo muchas actividades deportivas, principalmente competencias entre mineros. Las competiciones fueron organizadas por los directores de las propias minas de Stinnes, que también llevaron a cabo las ceremonias de premiación.
