La Escuela Europea Marie-Curie-Gymnasium en Neuss fue fundada en 1969 como un gimnasio municipal en el norte de la ciudad en el barrio de Furth. Está ubicada en dos edificios, ambos monumentos históricos.
El MCG fue fundado en 1969 inicialmente como el segundo gimnasio municipal para chicas. Dado que en el norte de la ciudad no había gimnasios en ese momento, se optó a medio plazo por la ubicación en Jostenallee en el barrio de Furth. Después de cuatro años de andar por diversos barrios, se pudo finalmente ocupar la ubicación prevista en 1973. El perfil de la escuela ha estado fuertemente influenciado hasta el día de hoy por el compromiso de la primera directora, la química graduada Christel Weyhe. Gracias a su iniciativa, el gimnasio recibió en 1971 el nombre de Marie Curie y una orientación predominantemente científica, lo que queda claro con la introducción de la formación profesional doble calificada para Asistentes Químico-Técnicos en 1975. Esta es una oferta educativa especial de la escuela que aún hoy tiene una gran aceptación. También durante la era de Weyhe se introdujo la coeducación en el Marie-Curie-Gymnasium en 1974.
