Osterath es uno de los ocho distritos de la ciudad de Meerbusch, creada como resultado de la reforma de la división territorial de Renania del Norte-Westfalia. Se encuentra en la parte occidental de la ciudad. En Osterath viven en una superficie de 1202 ha 12.645 habitantes, por lo que es el segundo distrito más grande después de Büderich.
Los hallazgos arqueológicos indican una ocupación en la época romana, siendo documentados los primeros asentamientos entre los siglos IX y XII. El nombre del actual distrito ha evolucionado de Ostradoe y Oistraide a Oysterroede, Oesterraid, Oisterraids, Osterraidt, Osterath, Osteradt.
