Cuando la reina Cristina de Suecia llegó a Königstein en octubre de 1655, la ciudad formaba parte de la archidiócesis de Maguncia. Durante su viaje por el territorio del arzobispo Johann Philipp von Schönborn, desde Königstein en el noroeste hasta Aub en el sureste, él se ocupó de su bienestar. Pero el prelado y la reina no se encontraron porque ella viajaba “de incógnito”. En Königstein, Cristina incluso se negó a ser recibida por su gobernador en el castillo arzobispal. Hoy en día se pueden visitar las ruinas del enorme castillo en la colina. Consejo: deja el coche en el aparcamiento Stadtmitte de la calle principal y visita el castillo y el casco antiguo a pie.
