Mondoñedo es un municipio y localidad española del norte de la provincia de Lugo, en la comunidad autónoma de Galicia. Situado en la comarca de La Mariña Central, de la cual es capital, el término municipal cuenta con una población de 3480 habitantes .El escudo heráldico y la bandera que representan al municipio fueron rehabilitados oficialmente el 9 de diciembre de 1999.
