Oya[1][2] [3] es un municipio ubicado en el litoral meridional de la provincia de Pontevedra. Forma parte de la comarca del Bajo Miño. Tiene una población de 3.018 habitantes del año 2018.El topónimo Oia está bien documentado y desde época medieval, principalmente ligado al monasterio de Santa María localizado en este término. El documento más antiguo que cita esta localidad es un pergamino suelto que data de 1137[4]
