Almendralejo es una ciudad y un municipio español de la provincia de Badajoz, en la comunidad autónoma de Extremadura. Su población en 2017 era de 33 540 habitantes según el INE.[1] Es cabecera del partido judicial homónimo y capital de la comarca de Tierra de Barros.El núcleo inicial de la población se formalizó en torno a la iglesia parroquial y la Casa de la Encomienda de la Orden de Santiago que se situaba enfrente, configurando una trama que, en el siglo XVI, quedaba formada por la calle Real y su prolongación en la actual calle Mérida y otras inmediatas. En el siglo XVII se prolongaba ya hasta el Altozano, Mártires y Caño. El crecimiento siguiente fue muy destacado, extendiéndose hasta casi los caminos de Aceuchal y Villafranca en el siglo XIX.
