Se sitúa sobre la carretera N-432, en el ámbito de influencia de Badajoz, ocupando un pequeño cerro a la orilla del arroyo Chicapierna. Pertenece a la comarca de Tierra de Badajoz y al Partido judicial de Badajoz.A la caída del Antiguo Régimen la localidad se constituye en municipio constitucional en la región de Extremadura. Desde 1834 quedó integrado en el Partido judicial de Badajoz.[3] En el censo de 1842 contaba con 50 hogares y 244 vecinos.[4]
