Alegría de Oria[1] es un municipio de la provincia de Guipúzcoa, País Vasco . Su población a 1 de enero de 2016 era de 1730 habitantes .El nombre tradicional de la localidad en español es Alegría; pero debido a la existencia de otras localidades homónimas en España , a principios del siglo XX le fue añadido el apelativo de Oria para distinguirlo de estas, siendo el Oria el río que atraviesa Alegría. El nombre tradicional en euskera es Alegia o Alegi . Por su similitud parece claro que ambos nombres están relacionados y que uno se deriva del otro, pero existen discrepancias en los expertos por determinar si el nombre vasco deriva del castellano o viceversa. A lo largo de la historia los nombres oficiales han sido Alegría, posteriormente Alegría de Oria y desde 1989 Alegia.
