La plaza de Cataluña (oficialmente y en catalán Plaça De Catalunya) es la más céntrica y grande de las plazas de Barcelona, hasta la remodelación de la Plaza de las Glorias Catalanas y la Plaza Europa que serán las Plazas más grandes de España. Tiene una superficie de aproximadamente 5 hectáreas y constituye el punto de unión entre el núcleo viejo de la ciudad y el ensanche. De aquí parten importantes vías de la ciudad como la Rambla, el paseo de Gracia, la rambla de Cataluña o las rondas de Universidad y de Sant Pere, y la calle Pelai, así como la avenida del Portal del Ángel, la gran arteria comercial de la ciudad, y antigua puerta de las murallas.
